FIRE Movement

As a stakeholder in the FIRE movement in French-speaking Switzerland (Barista FIRE), I organize events to promote exchanges and meetings between followers of this philosophy.
But what is the FIRE movement?
The FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement is a financial approach that aims to quickly accumulate enough capital to live off investments and no longer depend on paid work.
The key principles of FIRE:
✅ Save and invest massively: often 50% to 70% of income, by reducing expenses and maximizing income sources.
✅ Optimize your investments: favor passive investments, especially index ETFs, to benefit from long-term market growth while limiting fees.
✅ Achieve a safe withdrawal rate: generally based on the 4% rule (being able to withdraw 4% of your capital each year without exhausting it).
✅ Adopt an optimized lifestyle: reduce fixed costs to accelerate financial independence.
The three main levels of FIRE:
🔥 Lean FIRE: Your investments cover your essential expenses, without extravagances.
🔥 Barista FIRE: Your investments finance a significant portion of your expenses, but you depend on another source of income (part-time work, partner, side business) to supplement it.
🔥 Fat FIRE: Your investments generate enough income to maintain a comfortable lifestyle without compromise.
